The Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila yesterday hinted that his latest project in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency will kick off on Saturday. He made this known at his interactive session with community leaders and youth of Paddington area of Surulere, Lagos where he also highlighted projects he has attracted to the area.
This was contained in a statement released by his media aide, Olanrewaju Smart, on Wednesday in Lagos
“People outside Surulere by the time they see the kind of more projects I will attract to Surulere, they will have no choice than relocate to Surulere.”
“If we start afresh it will take Surulere 12 years to attain the leadership position we are currently holding in the House of Representatives. So it’s in our overall interest to think about moving forward and not backwards.“
“I have just worked on ensuring the award of the contract to upgrade Paddington Football field and Love Garden to Mini Stadia it was advertised in the national dailies few weeks ago. In this same area, we have constructed a new block of classrooms at Ajigbeda Secondary School, Installed Solar Street Lights at Imole Street, Iyun road, Onitana Street and Oyerokun Street; we have also constructed a clinic in your ward and gave same clinic a brand new medical ambulance, we also installed Integrated Solar Water System here, distributed e-learning tablets to students from this Ward as well as free GCE and Jamb forms for students. “, Gbajabiamila added
“By Saturday we will be doing the Ecological channelization of all the entire hybrid canals across the boundaries and major ecological routes in Surulere 1 Federal Constituency. I make bold to say that the federal government’s ecological fund office is doing this multi million National environmental project in only Surulere 1 Federal Constituency and I believe it will now allow the environmental work the Surulere local government is doing to be more effective because to tackle the actual source of the flooding problem our local government council lacks such huge funding. “
“Upon completion of this project all the flooding and gully erosion problems in Surulere will no more exist. “
“In the area of legislation, I am aggressively pursuing the Bill to Criminalize Estimated Electricity tariff because it’s same constituents who complained that it’s becoming unbearable for them to pay for what they don’t consume that we must ensure that Prepaid Meters are distributed to all electricity consumers in Surulere and I can tell you that the Discos are working on that now and infact this legislative intervention will provide succor to all Electricity consumers in Nigeria. “, the House Leader also said.
In his response, the President of Paddington Youth Forum, Mr. Michael Thomas, expressed profound appreciation to the majority leader for being a worthy mentor and representative with class.
The youth leader also presented the proposal drafted by the community youths seeking for soft loan to assist many of our youth who want to venture into small businesses.
“If you give us this loan we promise that our youth will repay in good time so that others can access it again. We don’t want to be idle because we learnt trade and some of us are also educated but we only need credible empowerment”, Thomas said.
In attendance were the lawmaker representing Surulere 1 Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Desmond Elliot; Secretary to Surulere Local Government, Mr. Adewale Dosumu; CDA leaders and community members.
